課程概述

1) 以guided reading及大班演講方式授課，故不須預習，但須課後複習，無小組討論或個人報告。
2)使用The Norton Anthology of English Literature 第八版，依歷史順序廣泛介紹 (The Middle Ages to 1603) 年間之重要作家之作品。在見樹不見林的選擇下，本課選擇廣大的樹林，僅選擇可能具有代表性的作品草草講解，因為任何一首詩或任何一位作家都需窮畢生之精力及時間去研究。但在授課過程中，會介紹作品創作的文化、歷史、政治、宗教的背景；同學可依此脈絡，自行嘗試詮釋作品。本課同時搭配多媒體教材，加深同學對文學作品之了解與欣賞；帶領同學思考文學與文化、政治、宗教、及其他藝術如建築、繪畫之關係。課程網頁中，配合授課內容提供聲音檔請同學下載到mp3中，將網頁視為第二 e-learning 教室。

 增進修課同學英國文學知識，思考文學研究的問題。

3)The Sixteenth Century:Thomas More; The English Bible; The English Sonnets; Edmund Spenser: The Shepheardes Calender; The Faerie Queene: Books 1 & 3; Amoretti; Epithalamion; Sir Philip Sidney; Christopher Marlowe; Shakespeare’s Sonnets and King Lear
